Green - greener - Hauff technology

Following the "Environment Day" founded by the United Nations in 1972 to protect the environment, Hauff-Technik initiated an Environment Week in the company for the first time this year. The topic of the environment is currently making its presence felt more than ever. And the medium-sized company is also making itself aware of its responsibility.

In the first week of June, the management gave the employees an opportunity to intensively deal with sustainable action in the areas of "social", "economic" and "environmental". Under the Hauff motto "Give back to the earth what you have taken from it." the company has set itself the task during the week from 31 May to 4 June 2021 of taking a special look at one environmental topic each day together with its employees. Read about the main topics here:

The week started on 31 May 2021 with "Climate and Energy". While e-mails seem to be an environmentally friendly alternative to classic letters at first glance, it was pointed out that both the writing and the transmission and subsequent storage of the data on the server are very harmful to the environment due to the high power consumption of the end devices. Therefore, the employees were asked to move e-mails that are no longer needed to the waste paper basket and then delete them. During the environmental week, more than 100,000 e-mails were deleted.

The company also wanted to set an example: With the completion of the outdoor facilities of the new logistics centre, trees will be planted specifically in July, thus giving back to the earth a fraction of what we take from it every day: Trees - Wood - Paper.

On 1 June 2021, everything revolved around waste management - from waste prevention to reuse and recovery to disposal, in short: recycling. The employees were to be reminded on this day to consciously use reusable products. At the same time, the trainees and students were out collecting waste in the surrounding area and ridding the earth of what it had previously been polluted with by humans.

On day three, the staff dealt with an elementary human need: food. Depending on the origin of the goods, the environment is heavily polluted by the production and the subsequent logistics. In order to encourage the employees to buy regional and fresh, a special offer was worked out at a regional health food shop, where the employees received subsidised organic goods from the company. A total of 105 organic boxes were ordered and thus 1,050 euros were subsidised by Hauff-Technik for a better environment.

On Day Four, the last day of the Environment Week, the focus was on the protection of flora and fauna. The many tons of waste produced by society every day are a great burden. The production of meat uses a lot of energy for machines and vehicles, and the large areas of grain used to produce fodder for farm animals displace a lot of animal habitat. In order to make a contribution to the well-being of living creatures, it was therefore suggested to the staff that they abstain from eating sausage and meat on this day.

In order to contribute to a functioning ecosystem, Hauff-Technik has offered three bee colonies a new home on the company roof since April 2021, thus contributing to the preservation of bees.

Hauff-Technik is also actively setting a good example in the field of electromobility: since the end of 2019, the company has been running several hybrid vehicles. With the "JobRad" programme, the company is not only protecting the environment but also making an active contribution to employee health and motivation.
